Chris Clarke

Cramlington Folk Club

Been playing acoustic guitar since the early sixties. Loved the Beatles and a bit of R&B, but the strongest early influences on guitar playing were from Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, the harp music of Turlough O' Carolan, and Martin Simpson. More recent influences have been Steve Tilston and Jez Lowe - but the most significant have been the floor singers listened to over the last fifty years.

Club quotes

“Great player of guitar and whistle. Lovely choice of songs delivered with feeling and expertise. Notches up the standards somewhat.”

“Brilliant guitarist with a lovely soft voice. Performs anything from Spanish dances to traditional folk songs. Like his penny whistle tunes too.”

“Lovely guitar player.”

“Quiet, unassuming - but a fine guitarist and singer.”

“A stylish and accomplished guitarist. Chris is comfortable with both Renbourne or Pentangle, but can tackle other styles and songs well.”

“Accomplished guitarist which adheres to his singing.”

“Chris has a wide range of songs.”

“Chris has been coming to the club for around three years and singing some lovely songs. He is an excellent guitarist and whistle player. A good club member”
